The Story of the world’s finest chocolates, the original Cummings Studio Candies, began over eighty five years ago. It started with the late V. Clyde Cummings at the age of fifteen; he enrolled in a home economics class at Salt Lake High School, which later became East High. This is where Clyde discovered his love for making candy. Soon, People were demanding that he make it regularly for them. At this point Clyde was earning his living working for another business, he continued to make his candies. He overcame the special problems of producing truly superb centers, light and airy, creamy smooth and soft, continued to intrigue him. He experimented with ingredients and new ways of mixing them, finally working out the secret methods that are still used today, in producing the famous Cummings Studio Chocolates. In fall of 1924, V. Clyde Cummings turned to candy making as a full time business. Moving into the building at 9th South and 7th East, The fame and popularity of this unique candy have spread to the far corners of the globe. It is mailed regularly to such places as Europe, Scandinavia, Pakistan, and the Pacific Rim countries.
The secret process developed by V. Clyde Cummings, was passed to his son Paul, then on to other members of the Cummings family. The chocolates are made under carefully controlled conditions, leaving only the cutting and dipping to others.
Only the finest ingredients are used in these choice confections, including a fine South American chocolate. This rare Tehuantepec chocolate is so expensive it is used by only one other candy maker in the entire country. It is expensive but it has incomparable flavor. Production is limited because preservatives or freezing are never used. They are not, and cannot be mass produced.
